Adobe Digital Marketing Insights' inaugural report was recently released, sharing information vital to marketers across the United States. The report found tablet users spent just as much as computer users and three times more than smartphone users while shopping online in 2011.
This finding indicates that marketing through tablets and smartphones is having an impact on how consumers are purchasing their goods. Marketing students must understand the power of mobile marketing once they have received their marketing degree and are applying their skills in the business world.
"This study shows the importance of optimizing your 2012 e-tail strategy for tablet visitors to avoid the risk of underserving a highly-profitable, fast-growing customer segment," said Brad Rencher, senior vice president and general manager of Adobe Digital Marketing Business.
Tablet users are believed to do much of their shopping during weekends, as tablet use is higher on weekends than during the week.
While Apple products running the iOS operating system remain the top devices people are using for their mobile shopping, Android devices made a strong surge during the holiday season, with retailers experiencing increased visits, transactions and revenues from Android products.
According to software developer Ability Commerce, the number of Android transactions increased 52 percent from the previous year, while revenues grew 173 percent, showing a large percentage of Android users are using their devices for ecommerce purposes.
