According to a recent survey conducted on behalf of CareerBuilder, many older workers in the United States, as well as hiring managers and human resource professionals, believe retirement may never be a reality for many workers.

Of workers surveyed, 57 percent of those older than 60 said they would look for another job after leaving their current employer. Other results from the survey indicated these older workers are likely to find positions.

Hiring managers may be looking to hire older employees, with 43 percent of these respondents planning to hire workers over the age of 50 this year.

Another interesting stat is that 75 percent of employers would consider bringing an overqualified older employee on board, while 59 percent of those respondents said such workers could provide mentorship in the workplace to younger employees. These results should indicate to those graduating with a business degree that they may be in competition for jobs with older applicants, and that once in the workplace, they may benefit from mentorship from these experienced workers.

"Whether mature workers are motivated by financial concerns or simply enjoy going to work every day, we're seeing more people move away from the traditional definition of retirement and seek 'rehirement,'" said Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder.

Despite the results of the CareerBuilder survey, baby boomers who are ready to step away from employment into retirement are looking for the perfect spot to relax after many years in the workplace, reported Fox Business.
Ron Sachs, spokesman for the Consumer Federation of the Southeast, told the news source most retiring boomers seek a warmer climate, as well as affordable healthcare and housing.
