Starting a businesses isn't for everyone- in fact, it isn't for most. There are several traits that make up an entrepreneur, which include inventiveness and fearlessness, along with a host of other qualities. Forbes** provided a list of signs that can show aspiring business owners whether they have what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Having a strong vision or long term goal is a must for those who expect to prosper with their own business. Without a main objective, business owners can become stuck after they get their business off the ground. It is imperative for entrepreneurs to know where they want to take their enterprise, reported the news source.

Being too cautious and unwilling to take risks is a trait found in somebody who doesn't have the chops to start their own business, said the news source. When earning a degree in business, many students take an entrepreneurship class in which they learn about some of the potential risks they face when going off on their own. Being hesitant to take a gamble may be the error that causes a business to fail.

Attempting to run a one-man show is another sign an entrepreneur will be unsuccessful. The news source said as a business grows, so must its staff and resources. Being uneager to increase staff members is not a smart practice for entrepreneurs because it is near impossible for one person to do everything.

The inability to alter or change plans may also indicate an entrepreneur is not ready for their own business. Starting a business is all about being flexible and doing what works, which may not necessarily be what is included in a business plan, said the news source.

While these are some problem areas to look for among those who are looking to build their own firm, Entrepreneur magazine** shared some positive character traits that are possessed by business owners who have achieved success.

Business owners who love what they do are often the ones who see the most satisfaction from their firm, said the magazine. These business owners don't view work as their job, they see it as their passion and their hobby.

Focusing on the customer is another thing smart entrepreneurs have been known to do. The magazine said customers are the reason a business will be successful, so it is important to make them happy first and foremost.
